When Money Can’t Buy Success

10 March 2010 – With more than One Billion Ringgit or 250 Million Euros spent, Real Madrid found out that money does not buy success. Real Madrid was humbled by French outfit, Lyons and the much awaited Champions League Quarter Finals clash with Manchester United did not materialised.

Manchester United meanwhile thumped AC Milan 7:2 on aggregate and clearly showing Real Madrid that they could live without Cristiano Ronaldo whom Real Madrid in the past year courted indecently and finally paid a world record transfer fee of 80 Million Euros.  It was really a satisfying day for the Red Devils fans to see their team go through to the Quarter Finals and the failure of Real Madrid was the cream the the cake.

The hero of the moment was again Wayne Rooney, scoring the first two of the four goals in the second leg match at Old Trafford. With 30 goals to his credit so far this season, Rooney stands to surpass Cristiano Ronaldo’s peak at Manchester United at 42. As long as Rooney stays focussed on current form and stays away from injury, we could see another legend in the making.

David Beckham described Rooney as the World’s Best Footballer while AC Milan’s coach Leonardo hailed Rooney as a “Complete Player
