Dec 16 – No matter which teams, Manchester United beats, it is always special when they beat Liverpool, more so if they did it in Anfield.
Carlos Tevez (pic below) scored the only goal of the match in Anfield two minutes before half time in a match which Liverpool dominated.
Liverpool had 60% possession of the ball, they ran up and down the flanks, they managed 20 shots compared with the Red Devil’s 5. Liverpool did everything but score. Liverpool could not capitalise on the two rare mistakes from Edwin van der Sar, the first occasion when Harry Kewell shot straight at Anderson while Fernando Torres headed wide in front of an open goal 6 yards away.
The 1:0 win over Liverpool stretched Manchester United’s unbeaten streak at Anfield to 6 years. More importantly, the win caused a killer blow to Liverpool’s title ambitions.
Liverpool fans will argue that their team were unlucky and that they were the better team. Manchester United won at Anfield last season with exactly the same tactics, solid defence and score on the rare breakaway attacks with also a single goal coming from John O’Shea.
Manchester United came to Anfield to win the game and to get all three points. The Red Devils sticked strictly to the game plan and they scored when it mattered most. In their defensive tactic, they allowed Liverpool to look good but any teams which cannot score from 20 attempts deserved to lose the game.
The rest of the year looks good Manchester United as they will be meeting:-
Everton on 23rd Dec at home
Sunderland on 26th Dec away
West Ham on 29th Dec away
I am looking forward to 3 wins for Manchester United to top the table by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Arsenal has to contend with Tottenham Hotspurs on 22nd Dec and Portsmouth 29th Dec. I will definitely be cheering for Spurs and Pompey.
